Water Quality

Surface Water Management is responsible for monitoring and improving water quality in local streams by reducing pollution coming from runoff. Our programs include:

Managing Stormwater Runoff

Pierce County is legally required to monitor for water quality under both federal and state laws. Public Works conducts inspections and provides technical advice to owners of privately and publicly-owned stormwater facilities to meet legal requirements and reduce the impacts of polluted runoff on people and fish.

Pierce County, like other large Western Washington counties and cities, is subject to extensive state and federal regulations aimed at reducing negative impacts of polluted runoff on streams, rivers, lakes and other waterbodies.
