Engineering: The preliminary engineering for the project is completed and we've begun the final engineering phase. County crews have surveyed the project area, we’ve designed the roundabout and grading of adjacent roadways, and designed the storm drainage conveyance and treatment systems.
Environmental: Environmental permitting is underway.
Geotechnical: Geotechnical investigations are completed.
About the Project
Planned improvements to this intersection include a new single lane roundabout with truck apron, crosswalks, street lighting, and cement concrete curb and gutter. Also included are pervious concrete sidewalks and Rapid Flashing Beacons at the new crosswalks, as well as storm drainage treatment facilities.
WHY A ROUNDABOUT?
While some drivers are initially hesitant about driving roundabouts, studies show that after driving a roundabout, most people favor them over a traditional traffic signal.
Studies have also shown that roundabouts are safer than traditional stop signs or signal-controlled intersections.
Studies by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have shown that roundabouts typically achieve:
A 37 percent reduction in overall collisions
A 75 percent reduction in injury collisions
A 90 percent reduction in fatality collisions
A 40 percent reduction in pedestrian collisions

March 2014 – December 2015: Complete the preliminary engineering and right of way plans. A Public Open House was held for the project on June 24, 2015.
December 2015 – October 2017: Right of Way acquisition and final engineering.
