As a precautionary measure, about 100 feet of the southbound lane of Kamus Drive has been closed until further notice due to settling of the outside edge of the roadway.
Pierce County will monitor the hillside and work with a geotechnical engineering firm to determine next steps.
A yield sign has been added for the southbound lane at the location of the closure. Traffic traveling in the northbound lane has the right-of-way.
In 2016, Pierce County completed work to improve drainage, slow the settling of the hillside, and minimize maintenance needs. As the road is built on a hillside prone to settling, additional settling of the road was anticipated.
