Demolition of the old Puget Sound Hospital facility is quickly moving forward. Dickson Company was selected as the demolition contractor through a competitive bidding process and has already set up temporary construction fencing and is currently mobilizing their equipment to begin work.
In mid-February, due to increased transient activities within the building, Pierce County commissioned two Tacoma Police Department officers to be on-site until demolition begins.
A community meeting was held Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department Auditorium. The community and interested parties were invited to attend to learn more about the demolition process and schedule of events.

On Nov. 8, 2016, the Pierce County Council unanimously passed Resolution 2016-149 supporting the construction of South Sound 911's new public safety communications center at 3580 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma.
At the same meeting, the council also approved Ordinance 2016-82s, amending the Pierce County budget to account for the South Sound 911-fronted funds to demolish the old Puget Sound Hospital, once referred to as Puget Sound Behavioral Health Hospital.
