The amendments to Pierce County's Comprehensive Plan have been introduced as Ordinance No. 2015-33. Community Development Committee hearings were conducted on June 1, June 4, June 8 and June 15. On June 15th, the committee disposed of 15 amendments. The Community Development Committee continued the June 15, 2015 hearing to June 22, 2015 to consider final amendments. Final Council action is anticipated on June 30, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Councilmembers have sponsored several additional amendments for consideration at the June 30 public hearing. Read the public meeting notice for details. Please note that public testimony will be accepted on any amendment topic at each committee hearing.

Pierce County has updated its shoreline development regulations. The Council transmitted the updated SMP to the Washington State Department of Ecology for their review and approval. To view the updated SMP and find out its status, please visit the Shoreline Master Program Update website.

Pierce County Council SealThe County Council is the legislative branch of Pierce County government and is the policy-determining body of the County, as provided by the County Charter. The Council has all powers of the County not otherwise reserved to the people, the Executive, or general law.

The seven members of the County Council are elected from each of seven contiguous and equally populated districts. Each county councilmember represents a district having a population of approximately 115,000 people (as of the 2010 Census) and is elected to a 4 year term.
