Come and hear the candidates for the Washington State Legislature respond to issues of concern for older adults and individuals of all ages with disabilities. Questions will be asked on topics ranging from Medicaid coverage and respite care to housing and transportation. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions.

Three Candidate Forums will be held simultaneously from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, September 18.

  • Districts 2, 25 and 31 held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 10510 - 136th St. E. in Puyallup;
  • Districts 26 & 27 at TACID, 6315 S. 19th Street in Tacoma.
  • Districts 28 & 29 at the Lakewood Activity Center, 9119 Lakewood Blvd in Lakewood

All candidates in these districts standing for election to the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives have been invited.

The forums are designed to help the voting public get to know the candidates and hear about their understanding of the needs of older adults and people with disabilities in challenging economic times.

The Aging & Disability Legislative Candidate Forums are sponsored by the Pierce County Aging & Long Term Care Advisory Board and local community partners.

Forums will be presented with ASL Interpreters, Real Time Captioning and Assistive Listening Systems. For other needed accommodations please contact the Pierce County ADRC at (253) 798-4600 or e-mail to ADRC@co.pierce.wa.us not later than Sept. 8.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Aging and Long Term Care is to ensure that Pierce County residents have available a range of community-based services that promote dignity and maximize individual choice.

WHO WE ARE

Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care (ALTC) is one of thirteen designated Area Agencies on Aging in Washington State.

It is our job to speak for the rights of elders, and to plan and manage long-term care programs that help older and disabled people to remain secure and independent.

WHAT IS LONG-TERM CARE?

Long-term care services provide needed help when disability or illness makes it difficult to meet all of your own care needs.

The help is provided by several agencies working together, to make sure you receive the services you need.

Besides Pierce County Aging and Long Term Care, the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and other local agencies are involved in providing long-term care services.
