Cooling stations are open this week throughout Pierce County so citizens can come in and cool off from the region's excessive heat.
The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management also encourages citizens to take advantage of cooler air in other public buildings such as movie theaters, malls and air conditioned stores. Lowe's, Petco and Petsmart also allow pets to come in with their owners (on a leash or in a crate).
