Welcome from Sheriff Paul A. PastorSheriff Pastor

I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. We have been responsible for public safety in Pierce County since 1853. Today we are the second largest sheriff's agency in Washington State serving over 811,000 residents county wide including over 390,000 who reside in unincorporated county areas.

Since becoming your sheriff, I have had the privilege of meeting many of you in person at one of the many public meetings we hold each year. Whether in face-to-face meetings or on our monthly television program, 'The Sheriff's Report,' I try to keep you informed about issues of community safety.

I believe that members of the Sheriff's Department have a tremendous responsibility to you in the community.  And I believe that you have a tremendous responsibility as well. It is the responsibility of citizenship: the responsibility to be informed and involved in public life and civic culture.

I believe that your safety is a particularly vital issue. I urge you to get informed about this issue and involved in what your Sheriff's Department can do and is doing about it. You see, I believe that public safety is not a spectator sport. It is important that we are all informed and involved. The purpose of this website is to provide information and provide you with a window on who we are, what we are about and how you can engage with us to build a safer community for you and your family.
