The Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail cuts through woods and wetlands, joining South Hill Community Park with Heritage Recreation Center, a public athletic complex. The trail is a wide, paved route that connects to a loop trail at South Hill Community Park. Both the Nathan Chapman Memorial Trail and the South Hill Park Loop, together make one of the area’s best short day hikes. Access the trail at 86th Avenue east and 144th Street East in South Hill Puyallup.
In Memory

Named in honor Sergeant Nathan Chapman, a Green Beret and Puyallup resident who was the first U.S. soldier killed by enemy fire in 2002 in Afghanistan.

Chapman Motto
Chapman's motto was 'Stand Up and Do Something.' He was remembered by his friends as dynamic, outgoing and charismatic. He told his wife he joined the Green Berets to fight against injustice and to help free oppressed people. The Special Forces motto is 'Liberating the Oppressed.' Nate Chapman served twelve and half years in the Army.

About the Trail
This paved trail system is about 1.6 miles long and surrounded by large trees, man-made wetlands and beautiful scenery, creating an easy and enjoyable walk to either site. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
