Cadet Program
Purpose of the Cadet Program
The purpose of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Cadet Program is to familiarize young adults between the age of 15 and 21 with the procedures and qualifications of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. It is also designed to attract those interested in a law enforcement career while promoting communication and understanding between the Sheriff's Department personnel and the community.

The mission of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Cadet Program is to establish an environment where all cadets can obtain a general knowledge and understanding of a career in the law enforcement field while providing a service to the residents of Pierce County with high expectations of quality and unrelenting enthusiasm.

Join the Cadet Program
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department wants you for their Cadet Program if you are: 
  • A person who likes to have fun
  • A person with a positive attitude
  • A person with no serious criminal background and a good driving record (if applicable)
  • A student with a GPA of 2.25 or greater
  • A young adult 15 to 21 years old
  • Able to attend weekly meetings and donate a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per month
  • Able to commit to no alcohol and drug use
  • Able to follow rules and regulations
  • Able to pass a background investigation and an oral interview
  • Able to purchase a uniform within eight weeks of acceptance
  • An enthusiastic and motivated person
  • Interested in a career in law enforcement
  • Willing to attend one of the two Washington Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors Association
    (WLEEAA) Academies per year

Cadet meetings are held at the Parkland-Spanaway Sheriff's Precinct, located at 14113 Pacific Ave. S. behind the Subway sandwich shop.  Meetings are usually held every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and anyone interested in joining the cadet program is welcome to attend.
