Community Plan Updates in Progress!
During the 2015 Comprehensive Plan Update process members from various communities expressed a need for an update to the Community Plans. County Council has directed PALS to update 4 of the plans over the course of 2016-2017:
Proposals associated with any of the four Community Plans are excluded from the 2016-2017 Comprehensive Plan Amendment cycle.  Individuals may request the appropriate Land Use Advisory Commission to consider policy and land use designation changes by:
  • Submitting comments using the comment buttons found on the Community Plan Updates webpages
  • Request changes at an appropriate Land Use Advisory Commission meeting

Honor the Past—Look Ahead
The Pierce County Comprehensive Plan is an adopted policy document that guides County decisions related to growth and development in unincorporated Pierce County

This planning document extends beyond land use patterns and permitted activity. It provides consistent policy direction for:
  • Housing
  • Parks and open space
  • Community health and well being
  • Environmentally sensitive areas
  • Historic preservation
  • Public services and facilities

Honor past planning work and
carry forward the vision for Pierce County.

Eleven community plans were adopted in Pierce County between 1999 and 2009. Each plan included public engagement that helped refine the direction of community development in Pierce County. The valuable input provided through these planning processes was relied upon during the Update process.
Thank you for all of the public input and participation!

There was a substantial amount of public involvement throughout the entire Comprehensive Plan update process. PALS was able to further understand community issues through responses to our question of the week, change of use requests, comment forms, and by speaking to members of the public during phone calls, open houses, and public meetings. The adopted Plan is a reflection of that input. Thank you to everyone who was involved, your participation is appreciated!
