Updated February 18, 2016 – Construction crews are dry fitting and repairing the interior concrete surfaces of the manhole at the intersection of Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest and North Street Southwest in preparation for the application of a new protective coating.
Crews are expected to performing vapor blasting and concrete substrate testing at all six manhole locations during the week of February 22nd. The application of the new protective coating inside each manhole will begin February 29th.

Updated February 2, 2016
– Work began last week with crews removing drop pipes and steps inside the manholes. Removal work continues this week with no interruption in service anticipated.

Crews begin work to remove old protective liners and perform structural testing of the underlying concrete the week of February 8, 2016.

The anticipated completion date for the project has been extended to Saturday, March 5, 2016.  

Updated January 13, 2016-The bid for the Collections Manhole Rehabilitation 2016 project was awarded to Realm, Inc. Oct. 14, 2015 in the amount of $141,437.            
About the Project
This is a preservation project to rehabilitate six existing sewer manholes located throughout the county’s sanitary service area. All six of the manholes are located in the City of Lakewood.

The contractor is responsible for temporarily bypassing wastewater flows and providing traffic control to access the manholes. All work will be done from inside the manholes. Construction digging is not anticipated.

Work is expected to take place between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays through the completion of the project. Residents may be asked to reduce their wastewater discharge while construction is taking place.

The work is not expected to cause traffic delays, however motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should exercise caution in areas where crews are operating.

Work includes:
  • Manhole wall, shelf and channel rehabilitation
  • Installation of new steps
  • Replacement of corroded ductile iron inside drop structures with new plastic GU drop structures
  • Clean and remove damaged material from manholes.
  • Application of a protective coating on all interior concrete surfaces
