Bake sale supports National Crime Victims' Rights Week
bake saleIn observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Prosecutor’s Office staff organized a bake sale on April 11. Staff throughout the County-City Building supported the sale by purchasing delicious treats. The sale raised $931, which was donated to the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center to support victims of domestic violence.

This year, we celebrated 30 years of the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and its critical mission to fund crime victim compensation and victim assistance programs across our nation. Before this historic legislation was enacted, the world was different for crime victims, their families and communities. Local service providers who could meet victims’ needs for support, counseling or shelter were few. The criminal justice system often failed to recognize a victim’s need to be included in the justice process. Crime victim compensation programs were not consistently available and had no source of federal support.

The VOCA has made it possible for the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center to offer safety and comfort for crime victims. It has also enabled our office to provide victim advocates who guide and support victims through the criminal justice process.
