Veterans
We invite Veterans to put their skills to work with Pierce County!

While serving our country, veterans acquire and apply many valuable skills and attributes: leadership, decision making, discipline, reliability, dedication, integrity, cooperation, and collaboration. These skills are important to us! We invite Veterans to put those talents to work in a job where you can continue to make a difference and enjoy the many benefits Pierce County has to offer.

How to get started:

Select from the current job openings and apply for a job, or sign up to receive “Job Alerts". “Job Alerts” will send you notifications when Pierce County has a job open for application in a specific field.

If you see a job you are interested in, follow these steps:
  1. Register in the online recruiting system
  2. Sign-in and build an online applicant profile to include additional resources (resume, cover letter, or letters of recommendation)
  3. Search for jobs that match your skills and apply.
Veterans’ Preference

Pursuant to state law, Pierce County awards veterans’ preference and/or scoring for veterans who have been honorably discharged. While completing your application, you will be asked a series of standard questions, including questions regarding veteran status. The questions asked are used to determine eligibility for claiming veterans’ preference and/or scoring criteria. Proof of veterans status will be required to make the award.

Pierce County has a history of hiring veterans

Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is located within Pierce County, just 9 miles away from Tacoma. Our proximity to JBLM and the natural tendency for veterans to want to continue in public service makes us the ideal employer for those transitioning into the civilian workforce.
