Gig Harbor Mayor, Deputy Prosecutor Jill Guernsey meets Croatian Prime Minister
Jill GuernseyOn Sept. 28, 2014, Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and members of his cabinet visited Gig Harbor, a historic Croatian fishing village settled in the late 1800s. Jill Guernsey, a Pierce County deputy prosecutor and mayor of Gig Harbor, joined the citizens at Skansie Brothers Park to welcome the Croatian dignitaries. Milanovic joked that prior to his visit, all he knew of the area was the infamous Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse.

"First, I didn't know you existed. Second, the only thing I was fully aware of was that sinister bridge around there."

Milanovic and his cabinet visited the United States to strengthen ties with the American information technology industry. They detoured to Gig Harbor while in the Pacific Northwest for a visit to the Microsoft campus in Redmond.

At the end of his visit, Milanovic called Gig Harbor "romantic," and thanked the citizens for their warm welcome. Mayor Guernsey was impressed by Milanovic's friendliness and enthusiasm for Gig Harbor.

"I am honored to be the Mayor of Gig Harbor, and having an official visit from a foreign dignitary made it that much more special," said Mayor and Deputy Prosecutor Guernsey. "Since that day, I have had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Josep Pora, and I cannot wait to see Croatia first-hand."
