Beyond The Borders
What is Beyond the Borders?
Beyond the Borders transportation service helps eligible riders in east and south Pierce County who are outside of the Pierce Transit service area. Beyond the Borders helps riders access public transportation, medical services, employment and social activities.

Who is eligible to ride?
Seniors 65+
People with disabilities
Youth 12-17
People with low incomes may be eligible to ride.

What is the cost to ride?
The service is free for eligible riders.

Two Ways to Ride:
1.  Beyond the Borders Connector
Connector routes run on a 45-minute schedule Monday through Friday in two areas:

• Sumner, with connections to Pierce Transit and Sound Transit
• Spanaway/South Hill, with connections to Pierce Transit at the Spanaway Walmart and the South Hill Fred Meyer

2.  Demand-Response Transportation
Shared-Ride transportation is available in areas where the Connector is not available or transportation is needed when the Connector isn’t in service.  Communities include:  Bonney Lake, Buckley, Burnett, Carbonado, Cascade Junction, Eatonville, Frederickson, Graham, Kapowsin, Lake Tapps, McKenna, Orting, Prairie Ridge, Roy, South Hill, South Prairie, Spanaway, Sumner and Wilkeson.

Demand-Response Rides can be taken to:

• Work/Employment locations.
• Dialysis treatment (must meet income criteria - currently $1,471 max per month per rider).
• Other destinations (must be essential/lifeline destinations) – Up to 3 trips per month per eligible rider.

Riders will be taken to either their destination inside the Beyond the Borders (BTB) service area or to a connection point with another transportation provider outside the BTB service area.

Do I need to make a reservation before I ride?
Yes, all riders must complete an eligibility screening to use the service.  Contact:
