Starting Your Business in Pierce County?

Pierce County does not require a business license except for certain categories. Check with the County Auditor’s Office to see if your proposed business may need a license.

Cities in Pierce County may require a business license. If you are locating your business within city limits, check to see if a license is required.

The Washington Small Business Development Center, with a local branch located at Bates Technical College, is a network of business advisors, trainers, and support staff who operate from Washington State University, Western Washington University, several of the state’s community and technical colleges, and selected economic development agencies. They offer a wide variety of assistance for all phases of your business. 

The Washington Procurement Technical Assistance Center program, with a local branch located at Bates Technical College, helps companies find and successfully achieve contracts for work with the local, state and federal governments.

The South Sound-Tacoma Chapter of SCORE, with local branch located at Bates Technical College, Chapter provides free confidential mentoring for aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners.
