9-1-1 Communications
The Pierce County Enhanced 9-1-1 Program Office supports and manages the administration of the county-wide Enhanced 9-1-1 system. Services include technical support to the various public safety communications centers — Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and revenue distribution for equipment purchase and system maintenance.

The Enhanced 9-1-1 Program Office has the responsibility of maintaining the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) for all of Pierce County.

What is South Sound 9-1-1?
South Sound 911 was created in 2011 when the voters of Pierce County approved Proposition 1.  It provides 9-1-1 call receiving, dispatching and emergency communications for Law Enforcement agencies, Fire Departments and EMS providers throughout Pierce County.

The member agencies of South Sound 911 include Pierce County, the City of Tacoma, the City of Lakewood, the City of Fife and West Pierce Fire & Rescue.

What is Next Generation 9-1-1?
The Nation's current 9-1-1 system is designed around telephone technology and cannot handle the text, data, images and video that are both increasingly common in personal communications and critical to future transportation safety and mobility advances. The Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Initiative has established the foundation for public emergency communications services in a wireless mobile society.
