Energy Assistance and Weatherization Services

The Energy Services Programs are committed to assisting income-qualified households meet their financial burdens through payment for fuel, rent or mortgage, education and the installation of energy conservation materials.

Energy Assistance Program:

The Energy Assistance Program provides heating support through a direct payment made to the vendor on the client's behalf. This program operates during the heating season, usually November through April. Resources are limited, and not all families requesting assistance are able to receive it. Benefit payments are based on the eligible household's actual fuel usage for the past twelve months. All applicants receive education and information on energy conservation, utility payment plans, and budgeting.

Weatherization (WX):

The Pacific Northwest has experienced a surplus of electric power in the past, but is facing new regulations with power producers. While these regulations will impact all regional rate payers, low-income residents are especially vulnerable to increased costs for heating, as this population is most likely to live in substandard housing stock and be least likely to afford increasing fuel costs.

The Weatherization Program examines single and multi-dwellings, and mobile homes for existing heat loss conditions, then uses private sector contractors to install energy conservation measures on these units. This program's purpose is to conserve energy, preserve affordable housing stock throughout Pierce County, and educate occupants about saving energy and the most efficient and safe operations of their home's heating system.
