Curriculum and Activities

project citizen logo

As part of Pierce County's efforts to increase civic engagement in our communities, the Auditor's Office has introduced public policy curriculum into local middle schools. The program, called Project Citizen, teaches students about government, the Constitution, and general issues of public policy. In teams, students put together a research portfolio on a particular issue of local concern. They look at how the public policy issue is affecting the community, how organizations are currently addressing it, and also investigate potential solutions.

Project Citizen culminates in a county-wide showcase, where students present their findings to panels made up of local community members. The panel members then evaluate the thoroughness of the students' work; the top students are given the opportunity to compete at a state-wide showcase in Olympia.
