Chambers Creek Labyrinth

The Chambers Creek Labyrinth is located at the Environmental Services Area, south of the playfields. It was donated to the Properties by the Chambers Creek Foundation and Tacoma Labyrinth Project.

Information about Labyrinths
A labyrinth is an ancient symbol. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. A labyrinth is a place of tranquility. You can use this space to relax, connect with your thoughts, and find balance and insight. Labyrinths have been found across many world cultures, religions, and spiritualities. Walking the labyrinth is meant to calm and focus the mind.

There is no right or wrong way to use the labyrinth so long as you respect other people's right to use it as well. The Labyrinth Society has some basic suggestions to get you started.

  • Leave bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. outside the labyrinth. It is meant to be walked or wheeled if you use a chair.
  • Enter the labyrinth quietly and calmly.
  • Walk the path of the light colored bricks. Walk with your own rhythm at your own pace.
  • When you reach the center stand quietly again and re-visit your initial thoughts.
  • Quietly walk back out following the same path in reverse.
  • When you reach the end, pause again and consider your thoughts one last time noting any new perspectives or reflections.
Maze or Labyrinth?

Labyrinths and mazes are often confused, but what is the difference?

A labyrinth has only one path. The continuous path leads you to the center and out again. The completion of a labyrinth involves intuition, creativity, and imagery.

A maze is a puzzle to be solved. It has twists and turns, and choices to be made. It requires logical, sequential, analytical thinking to find the correct path through the maze.
