Permanent Off-Leash Area
OLA Spacer

The first permanent off-leash area at the Chambers Creek Properties opened in September 2010. Located on the beach just south of the pedestrian overpass, the off-leash permitted area allows dogs to swim and enjoy the beach. Dogs are permitted off-leash on the beach in this area only and must be leashed elsewhere.

Two more planned off-leash areas will provide opportunities for different types of off-leash experiences. See below for more information.

Other local off-leash areas currently available in Pierce County:
Ft. Steilacoom Park in Lakewood
MetroParks Facilities in Tacoma
Clarks Creek Park in Puyallup
North Dacca Community Park in Fife

Temporary Off-Leash Area (at Central Meadow)
Off-leash Area

Pierce County and the City of University Place entered into an agreement to create an interim off-leash area for dogs at county-owned Chambers Creek Properties. The temporary off-leash area at Central Meadow opened on July 2, 2009.

The city committed funds for temporary installation of fencing, gates, and signage to for one acre of county property for off-leash use near Central Meadow. The city is working with volunteers from SUNDogs, a local dog-enthusiast group, to raise $12,000. SUNDogs monitors the interior of the fenced dog area. If you would like to donate to the project please visit the SUNDogs website at http://www.updogpark.org.

Future Permanent Off-Leash Areas

In order to develop the best plan possible for the addition of off leash areas to the Chambers Creek Properties, we conducted a study and have summarized our findings in the Off-Leash Area Analysis Technical Memorandum.
As a result of our research we have developed a plan that includes 3 separate Off Leash Areas, each providing a unique experience for users of both the canine and human varieties.

North Beach, opened 2010 - open beach area to allow for water play; located on North Beach just south of the pedestrian overpass.
South Area - a more traditional style of off-leash area with a fenced meadow area to allow for field play; approximately 6 to 7 acres in size.
Canyon Area - integrated into trail system to allow for a natural experience and trail hiking in a more secluded area; size of this trail system is flexible.
