Welcome to Housing & Weatherization Programs

The mission of Pierce County Housing & Weatherization Programs is to provide opportunities for the
community to access safe,
decent and affordable housing through rehabilitation,
development, education, advocacy and referral.

Our programs include:

Housing:

Weatherization (WX):

The Pacific Northwest has experienced a surplus of electric power in the past, but is facing new regulations with power producers. While these regulations will impact all regional rate payers, low-income residents are especially vulnerable to increased costs for heating, as this population is most likely to live in substandard housing stock and be least likely to afford increasing fuel costs.

The Weatherization Program examines single and multi-dwellings, and mobile homes for existing heat loss conditions, then uses private sector contractors to install energy conservation measures on these units. This program's purpose is to conserve energy, preserve affordable housing stock throughout Pierce County, and educate occupants about saving energy and the most efficient and safe operations of their home's heating system.

Fill out the weatherization application to see if you qualify.

The Housing Repair division of the Pierce County Department of Community Connections and Pierce County Community Development Corporation are anticipating the need for contractors who provide the following services:

  • General Contractors
  • Electrical Contractors
  • HVAC Contractors
  • Plumbing Contractors
  • Roofing Contractors
  • Mobile Home Movers

These services are needed for the Minor Home Repair and Rehabilitation Loan programs. The Minor Home Repair Program provides a wide variety of repair services to single-family homes and mobile homes of income-qualified county residents. The Rehabilitation Program provides loans for extensive repair to single-family homes and, in some cases, moves existing homes to new locations bringing them up to current health and safety standards and then selling the homes to First-Time Homebuyers.

Contractors who apply for the Minor Home Repair Program will comprise a small works roster and will be assigned work on a rotating and most responsive bid basis depending on area of specialty. If your company is interested in participating in this program, application forms are available at 3602 Pacific Avenue, Suite 200, Tacoma, WA 98418, or you may download a copy of the Application. For more information, call 253-798-7038.

All contractors must be licensed, bonded and insured in Washington State.

Pierce County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Minority and Women owned businesses that are qualified to perform these services are encouraged to respond to this request.
