Department of Energy Seal Putting people back to work upgrading infrastructure to be more energy efficient, cost effective and environmentally sustainable. Through a Department of Energy grant, Facilities Management is helping put $4.37 million into the local economy now, with investments that bring rewards for years to come.

IT Storage Upgrade How much can you save by upgrading the County's IT disk storage system? DOE funds were part of an overhaul that's expected to save $1.9 million in operating costs over the next five years.

Crosswalk Sign LED (Light Emitting Diode) traffic and crosswalk signals use 90% less energy than incandescent lights. Replacing older lights can save the County up to $75,000 a year. And the clever folks at Public Works and Utilities found a way to make DOE funds go even further.

Hard Hat and Gloves Boosting the local economy while boosting energy efficiency. Facilities Management is replacing a quarter century old HVAC system that serves two floors of the main jail. The project is expected to save 31,000 kWh of energy and 500,000 CU of natural gas a year, as it puts suppliers and tradespeople back to work.
