ENERGY STAR SCORES:

The scores you might have seen posted in our County buildings represent the buildings' Energy Star score when compared nationally to other buildings that are similar in use. The scores range from 1-100. The higher the number, the more efficient the building.

We have posted these numbers as a way to raise awareness of our energy use in County facilities. We can all influence our building's energy score by making small changes to save money and help the environment.

ENERGY USE PER SQUARE FOOT (kbtu/sq ft):

Some buildings will see their energy use per square foot (kbtu/sq ft) instead of a 1-100 rating. This is because not all of our Pierce County buildings fit perfectly into the space types Energy Star uses for scoring. For the buildings that have their energy use per square foot information, they are being compared to the national averages and are weighted by square footage and use of space.

For example: If you are in a building that is 30% office space and 70% maintenance/shop space, then your energy use per square foot will be weighted accordingly. This allows us to compare our energy use against the national average with accuracy.
