There are three distinct programs within Medicare Savings Programs.

  • Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program (QMB)
  • Specified Low-Income Beneficiary Program (SLMB)
  • Qualified Individuals (QI)

Each program has unique eligibility requirements.

Income $928 $1,246 Income limits may be increased when the Federal Poverty Limits are announced in January
Assets $6,680 $10,020 Certain assets are not counted, including but not limited to the primary residence, a car, burial plots, and at least $1,500 in life insurance.
Benefits Part A premium (enrollees without sufficient quarters of coverage)

Part A hospital deductible
Part A hospital copays:

Part B premium Part B annual deductible

Part B coinsurance (20 percent of Medicare reasonable charge)

Note: QI is not an entitlement program. States are given an allotment each year QI is authorized. Once the state reaches its limit, no additional people receive the benefit, even if they meet the income and asset requirements.
