What is a Nursing Home?
A nursing home provides skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services to people with illnesses, injuries or functional disabilities. Nursing homes today serve the elderly as well as younger individuals with various needs. Nursing homes are generally stand alone facilities, but some are linked to a hospital, assisted living or retirement community.

Services provided in a Nursing Home
The level of care provided by nursing homes has increased significantly over the past decade. Many homes now provide much of the nursing care that was previously provided in a hospital setting. As a result, most nursing homes now focus their attention on rehabilitation, so that their clients can return to their own homes as soon as possible.

The best source of information regarding nursing homes in Pierce County is through the Washington State Aging and Disability Services Administration (AASA) of the Department of Social and Human Services (DSHS).

Visit the Directory of Licensed Nursing Facilities along with definitions and contract types. You can sort information by county, city or zip. You can also ask for a report listing just the information that is most useful to you.

3. Tips to Selecting a Quality Nursing Home
The National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform offers various consumer helps to selecting a Nursing Home.
