Questions To Ask...

There are many options for live in services, and prices range dramatically. Before you begin your search, it is important to decide exactly what your needs are, what you want from the caregiver, and what you will allow the caregiver to do. Consider which parts of the home that the caregiver can use and which parts they cannot. For example...

  • What hours does the caregiver need to be there?
  • Can they have an outside job?
  • Can they go out in the evening?
  • Can they have a child or a pet?
  • Can they entertain guests in your home?
  • Can they use your telephone, or do they need their own?
  • Where can they store their food and possessions?
  • What will the payment schedule be?
  • If either party gives notice, how long does it have to be?
  • Write this information down and create a thorough job description of the things you want the caregiver to do. Have others (relatives or friends) review the job description and help you refine it. Give a copy to the caregiver.
