We are currently recruiting students from local law schools for two (2) legal intern positions in our Appeals Unit that will begin in May and June, 2012. These positions are for 1L students. These are full-time (35 hrs/wk) during the summer and part-time (15 hrs/wk) during the following school year. Salary is $15-$17 per hour, no benefits. If you are interested in an intern position and have not applied through the NW Public Interest Law Fair, please send a resume, cover letter and 5-10 page writing sample to Rebecca Stover at rstover@co.pierce.wa.us no later than February 10, 2012.

Legal Interns play a vital and active role in the success of this office. Many interns are hired as attorneys after graduating law school and passing the bar exam. Representatives from the Prosecutor's Office participate in on campus interview fairs at Seattle University and University of Washington law schools every spring and fall. Most intern positions are one year in duration; full-time during the summer and part-time (15 hours/week) during the school year.

Positions available to 2L students (Rule 9 certification required at start date):

  • Misdemeanor Section - Interns regularly handle all aspects of District Court practice, from arraignments and pre-trial conferences to trials and post-conviction hearings, on both traffic and domestic violence cases.

  • Felony Section - Robbery/Assault Unit and Drug/Vice Unit - Interns conduct research, write briefs and memorandums, argue motions in court and assist in trial preparation on felony level cases. Many get the opportunity to co-chair one or more felony trials.

  • Civil Division - Interns conduct legal research and writing on a variety of topics for the risk management attorneys. They may also appear on behalf of the State in minor administrative hearings and assist attorneys in trial preparation.

Positions available to 1L students:

  • Appeals Unit - These are two-year positions that begin at the end of the first year of law school and conclude upon graduation. Appellate interns write briefs and present oral arguments in Superior Court and the Court of Appeals, Division II. They traditionally argue more than 10 cases before the Court and often have the opportunity to conduct a misdemeanor trial.

Unpaid internships/externships are available throughout the year in all areas of the office to all level of law students. If you would like to be considered for a position, please send a cover letter, resume and short writing sample to:
