Spanaway Lake Dock

Spanaway Park walkers and pets around the lake.

This 135-acre park along beautiful Spanaway Lake is extremely popular with many year-round activities. Visitors to the park can explore a multitude of aquatic recreation opportunities, including two swimming beaches (no lifeguards), a boat launch, a fishing pier, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new picnic area by the south swimming beach, newly renovated boat ramp, ADA playground equipment with a seating plaza for parents, and a new 3-mile trail system by Little Spanaway Lake as well as restoring the shoreline.

In addition, the park features softball fields, basketball courts, new children's play area, and walking trails along several thousand feet of waterfront.

Spanaway Park boasts great family/company picnic areas with five covered open-side picnic shelters, each with running water, electricity and a large grill.

In the holiday season, it is home to ' Fantasy Lights', the largest drive-through holiday display in the Northwest. Summer day camps and youth sports utilize this park's many recreational opportunities.


Seasonal Parking and Boat Launch Fees charged:

  • Daily, May 28-September 3, 2012
  • Weekends only: May 19-20, Sept. 8-9, and Sept. 15-16, 2012


  • Disabled Veterans are exempt from all park/launch fees with a valid Washington State Parks Veterans Pass. To have a State Parks Veteran Pass application mailed to you, please call (360) 902-8500, (360) 902-8844 or send an e-mail to infocent@parks.wa.gov.

Parking Fee:

  • $3.00 - Vehicles and motorcycles
  • $1.00 - Seniors (62+)
  • $1.00 - Persons with disabilities
  • Disabled American Veterans are exempt with a valid Washington State Parks Veterans Pass.

Parking Pass:

  • $30.00 - Vehicle and motorcycles.
  • Valid at Spanaway Park only.

Drive Through Pass:

  • $20.00 - Spanaway Park Drive Through Pass (restricted to local residents only)

Boat Launch Fees:

  • $10.00/launch - with a trailer
  • $6.00/launch - without a trailer
  • $3.00/launch - Senior/Person with disabilities

Combined Boat Launch/Parking Pass:

  • $75.00 Annual Season Parking/Boat Launch Pass

Pass Information:

  • Passes are valid for one boat launch per day.
  • Passes need to be placed where easily visible in your vehicle or boat.
  • Passes are accepted only when parking is available.
  • Boat launch passes are available to purchase on a seasonal basis. Passes are for immediate family use and are non-transferable. 'Family' means one or more persons related by blood or marriage (or adoption), living as a single housekeeping unit.
  • Passes are used for recreational purposes only, not for personal financial gain.
  • Passes may be purchased at the parks ticket booths or at the Lakewood Community Center (253)798-4177.

Spanaway Park shelter A Spanaway Park's 5 covered picnic shelters have tables, grills, concrete floors, electricity and running water. All shelters (subject to availability) are reserved once our office has processed a completed reservation form and a permit issued.
  • Picnic shelters can be reserved May through September.

  • Reservations are taken the first business day in March through September and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk in customers are given priority.

  • Reservations must be made 2 weeks in advance of the event date.

  • All picnic shelters (subject to availability) can be reserved once our office has processed a completed application with payment and a permit is issued. Permits are issued for the current calendar year only.

  • All picnic shelters are closed from October through March of each year.

Reservations may be requested by mail and/or walk in to the Pierce County Parks Adminstrative office at the Lakewood Community Center.

  • Shelter reservation fee does not include the parking fee nor the boat launching fee.

All fees must be paid in full in order to receive a permit. You are welcome to call the Parks Administration Office (253)798-4177 to check on the availability of dates.

Garbage

All trash receptacles have been removed from the park. Patrons are responsible to carry in and out their trash. Please leave the area clean and remove any decorations.

Barbecues

You are welcome to bring self-contained barbecues. Your barbecue must be a minimum of 6 inches off the ground. Please remember that you are responsible for safe removal and disposal of the coals and/or grease outside of the park.


  • 7:30 a.m. until Dusk unless otherwise posted.

Seasonal Hours:

To facilitate the setup for Fantasy Lights, new times for gate closures at Spanaway Park go into effect in October to protect the public from safety hazards as the light displays are on the ground and in the process of being erected/disassembled.

  • Oct. 1, 2011 -Jan. 31, 2012 the north gate will close at 3:30 p.m. Restrooms available at Shelter 'C'.
  • South gate closed Oct. 24, 2011 through Jan. 15, 2012.
  • Sunday, November 20, 2011 the park will close at 12 noon for the Fantasy Lights Walk event.

From I-5

  • Take exit 127 follow the Puyallup/Mt. Rainier signs.
  • Go east for 2 miles on SR 512
  • Take the second exit (Parkland/Spanaway).
  • Turn right onto Pacific Avenue (SR 7).
  • Travel approximately 3 miles and turn right on Old Military Rd (152nd St).
  • Go 1/2 mile and entrance to the Park's main gate is on the left.
