Who may I donate sick leave to?
The current list of employees approved to receive donations is listed on the Human Resources intranet site, HRweb.

What can I donate?

  1. Regular employees may donate their accrued sick leave in full day increments (7, 7.5 or 8 hour increments) up to a maximum of 40 hours per calendar year.
  2. Donating full-time employees must maintain a sick leave balance of no less than 30 days after donation of sick leave. Part-time employees must maintain a sick leave balance equivalent to 30 days of leave after donation of sick leave.

Please note: All donations are strictly voluntary. Each donation is designated for a specific employee recipient and not put into a general pool.

When must donated sick leave be used?
Donated sick leave hours must be used by the recipient within 60 calendar days of the date of donation or they will be returned to the donor. Donated sick leave will be granted to the recipient on a first in, first out basis.

Where can I get more information?
To find out more about the Shared Sick Leave Program, refer to the Pierce County Administrative Guidelines for the Career Service, Chapter 3.70.

If you are an eligible employee who wishes to donate sick leave to an approved individual, complete a Shared Sick Leave Donor Form and return it to the Human Resources Department by the deadline indicated for that employee.
