The Thun Field Landside Study purpose is to examine the optimal use of the Pierce County Airport, Thun Field landside assets. Landside is the portion of airport property outside the runway, parallel taxiway, and the clear areas around the runway and taxiway needed for safe aircraft operations.
A planning committee of persons knowledgeable in the field of airport and land development provided guidance in the preparation of the landside planning study. The committee met four times between March and July of 2008. Committee functions included chartering the study, reviewing technical information and analysis developed throughout the study, discussing the positioning of the available property, selecting alternative methods to enable this property to be developed, providing guidance on selecting a preferred method of development, and review/recommendations for landside development of the Pierce County Airport, Thun Field. This landside study does not change the 2000 airport master plan update prepared by Bucher, Willis & Radcliff, but analyzes landside development in more detail, particularly regarding financial implementation.
