The Contract Compliance Office helps contractors on Pierce County projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding:

Contract Compliance monitors all Pierce County projects from contract award through the final payment at the close of the project. Contractors are required to regularly submit reporting paperwork to our office. Check our forms page for commonly used documents.

In accordance with Washington State Initiative 200, and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, every effort will be made to ensure nondiscrimination in all programs and activities, whether federally funded or not.

Pierce County's Title VI Plan (PDF 230 KB) was updated in 2004 and approved by the Washington State Department of Transportation in September 2005.


A 1989 Disparity Study of the Puget Sound area concluded that discrimination was a pervasive problem in the contracting community. As a result, Pierce County established goals for public contracts of 14% for minority-owned businesses, and 8% for women-owned businesses.

Passage of Initiative 200 in 1998 eliminated mandatory goal setting for locally-funded projects, but agencies are still required to ensure nondiscrimination in public contracting.
