Overview - 176 St E, Waller Rd E to 51 Av E

What's Happening?
We're improving 1.41 miles of 176th Street East from Waller Road East to 51st Avenue East (CRP 5537). Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

Expanding to four lanes and paved shoulders with a raised median or turn lanes.
Adding concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
Adding street lighting.
Adding new traffic signals at Waller Road East and 36th Avenue East.
Improving the traffic signal at 38th Avenue East.
Adding an enclosed storm drain system as well as stormwater treatment and storage facilities.

Schedule

2010, July: Pierce County awards the contract to Goodfellow Brothers, Inc.
2010, Aug: Pre-Construction Meeting
2010, Sept 20: Notice To Proceed.
2010, Dec: Beginning of 100 Working Days Utility Window; beginning of winter suspension.
2011, April: Construction resumes.
2011, May: 100 day Utility Window ends.

2011, Nov: End of road closure.
2011, Nov: Winter suspension.
2012, Spring: Construction resumes.
2012, Spring: Expect Substantial Completion Date.
2012, Summer: Expect Physical Completion Date.

The Latest

Two of three asphalt lifts (layers) are complete from Waller Road East to the Tacoma Rail Overcrossing.
The traffic signals at 38th Avenue East, 36th Avenue East, and at Waller Road East are all functional.
The final lift of paving is scheduled to begin in May 2012.
