Word on the Street: Improvements to the Pioneer Way East/Waller Road East intersection.

What's Happening
We're improving the Pioneer Way East/Waller Road East Intersection (CRP 5628). Improvements, designed to relieve traffic congestion, include:

  • Realigning Pioneer Way East.
  • Adding a traffic signal and turn lanes at the Pioneer Way East/Waller Road East intersection.
  • Adding concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks & retaining walls.
  • Adding an enclosed storm drain system as well as stormwater treatment and storage facilities.
November 2011
This project was selected by the Transportation Improvement Board for $814,000 in Fiscal Year 2013 Rapid Action Funding. This funding fills a critical funding gap and will allow the project to be constructed starting in mid 2012.



January 2012

  • Engineering: Final engineering design and permitting is nearing completion. Construction plans and specifications are nearly complete, as is coordination with private utilities for the relocation of their facilities.
  • Right-of-Way: All needed right-of way has been acquired.


  • March 2009 to December 2009: Engineering completed to 90% level. Project was 'shelved' pending funding for construction.
  • August 2011: Funding application submitted for TIB Rapid Action selection.
  • September 2011 to February 2012: Final design and permitting completed.
  • November 2011: Project was selected by TIB for Rapid Action funding.
  • February 2012: Project to be advertised for construction bids.
  • February 2012 to May 2012: Private utility relocations.
  • Spring 2012: Planned construction start.
