Overview - Canyon Rd E, 172 St E to 160 St E

What's Happening?
We're improving 0.75 miles of Canyon Road East from 172nd Street East to 160th Street East (CRP 5656). Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

Expanding to three lanes in each direction, with paved shoulders.
Adding raised medians with designated left/u-turn lanes at select locations.
Adding concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
Adding an enclosed storm drain system as well as stormwater treatment and storage facilities.
Modifying traffic signals at Military Road East and 160th Street East.
Adding street lighting.

2010, July: Pierce County awarded the contract to Northwest Construction.
2010, Aug: Pre-Construction Meeting.
2010, Aug 31: Notice To Proceed.
2010, Sept: Beginning of the 100 working day Utility Window.
2011, Mar: End of Utility Window.
2011, May: End of Work Suspension.
2011, May-Nov: Active Construction.
2011, Nov: Winter Suspension.
2012, Spring: End Winter Suspension.
2012, Late Spring: Expect Substantial Completion Date.
2012, Summer: Expect Physical Completion Date.

The Latest
The final lift of pavement will be placed in Spring of 2012.The Contractor is working on the following activities:

Constructing the detention pond, center median, plantings, and hardscape (complete).
Protecting the site with erosion control in preparation for winter (complete).
Constructing the luminaires (complete) and new traffic signals.
Placing topsoil alongside the roadway.
