What's Happening:
This project will provide improvements to South Vaughn Bay Road at its crossing of Vaughn Bay:
  • Remove the existing five-span bridge.
  • Construct the new bridge and realign roadway approaches.
  • The new bridge will be a single span, prestressed, post tensioned, concrete girder bridge that will be 219 feet long.
  • The bridge and roadway will consist of two 12-feet-wide travel lanes and two 6-feet-wide shoulders.
  • Stormwater treatment embankments will be installed at several locations to treat stormwater runoff.

The Latest:

  • The contract was awarded to Scarsella Brothers Inc.
  • Pierce County issued the Notice To Proceed on 8/3/09
  • Girders were installed the first part of December 2009
  • Grand Opening was held on March 24, 2010
