Word on the Street: Replacement of Bridge #36193-A, 176th Street East, Tacoma Rail Overcrossing

What's Happening
This project (CRP 5387) will provide for the improvements of 176th Street East at its overcrossing of the Tacoma Rail Line. Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

• Remove the existing single span 2 lane bridge.
• Reconstruct the new bridge and approach roadways.
• The new bridge will be a single span, prestressed, concrete girder bridge that will be 76' long.
• The bridge will be five lanes wide with paved shoulders and 6' raised sidewalks on both sides.
• Modify the existing storm drainage system to include stormwater storage and treatment facilities.

June 2010

• Engineering: The Preliminary Engineering Phase of the project has been completed and the Final Engineering Phase has started. Girder design and storm drainage design is complete.
• Right-of-Way: Right-of-Way plans have been finalized. Property negotiations have begun.

• July 2010 to December 2010: Finalize structural design, plans and estimates.
• Early 2011: Project advertisement for public bid.
