In the summer of 2012, the final lift of hot mix asphalt (HMA) will be placed and the Canyon Road and 176th St (Waller Rd to Gem Heights) projects will be complete.

1. Why are we constructing all these projects at the same time?
Municipal bonds were sold to fund these projects. Requirements associated with these bonds are driving the anticipated project completion dates.
Will relieve traffic choke points and stimulate the local economy.
The road construction will be completed earlier and save money.
These road segments have failed concurrency (i.e. the number of existing lanes have reached their capacity) and we are required by the Growth Management Act (GMA) to have these road segments under construction within 6 years of their concurrency failure. Most of the road segments failed concurrency 6 years ago.
A positive result of the current economic situation is that we are able to construct these projects with significant savings (about 30%) from what we experienced in 2007-2008.
2. Why did we close the road for four months?
By closing the road, we were able to finish the work sooner.
By not having to build a temporary structure we saved about $1 million dollars.
3. Will Canyon to the south be built?
At this time the segment from 200 St to 224 St does not have funding for engineering or construction. However, the right-of-way to preserve the corridor has been secured.
4. What type of median is going in?
A hard-scape type treatment will be constructed.
There will be depressed curbs at various locations to accommodate Fire/Aide vehicles cross over.
U-turn locations have also been identified at about quarter mile spacing.
To help with visibility the gutter will be 18 inches.
5. When will the rest of 176 St be built?
At this time there is no funding for construction of the remaining project from B Street East to 14 Avenue East.
Design will be completed, most of the right-of-way will be acquired and shovel ready when construction funding becomes available.
