This is a rehabilitation project to control flow and odor at the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
Sewage travelling through a 72-inch diameter pipe must be slowed down when it arrives at the headworks of the treatment plant so it doesn't damage the equipment. The existing energy dissipator is showing signs of wear and needs to be rehabilitated or replaced.
There are also high levels of foul-smelling hydrogen sulfide gas in the energy dissipator structure that can be smelled outside. This project will also address ways to control the odor.
The project design is currently 90% complete. The project is anticipated to go out for bid in the summer of 2012.
