The Sewer Utility is expanding the sanitary sewer system and Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant to provide better service to the urban growth areas of the county.

To meet customer needs and expectations, investments are managed through strategic planning, asset management and new construction.

Asset management is a continuous process that guides the acquisition, use, and disposal of infrastructure assets. The purpose of asset management is to optimize service delivery and minimize the cost of any given asset over its service life. The Pierce County asset management strategy is structured around three principles:

• customer service
• asset life cycles and risk management
• life cycle costing

Documents such as Pierce County's Unified Sewer Plan and the Chambers Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Facilities Plan are the management tools and road maps used by the asset manager to track current projects and project future construction needs. These range from new interceptor pipelines to large scale expansion of the wastewater treatment plant.
