Food Waste class information
photo of worm bin Our environmental educators will show you how worms help you recycle food waste, produce rich organic castings (compost) for the garden, and potentially reduce your garbage bill. This course will teach you how to setup and maintain a worm bin.

This class is recommended for ages 6 to adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free Class
The free class provides instruction for setting up and maintaining a worm bin and a certificate of completion. No worm bin, reference materials or worms are provided with the free class.
  • You must register to attend (online registration below)
  • Bring a family member or friend! One guest per person. Guest must be registered.
Optional $30 fee includes:
  • A pre-drilled 14-gallon plastic worm bin with top
  • Instructions for setting up and maintaining a worm bin
  • One pound of red wriggler worms
  • Composting reference materials
  • A certificate of completion
Yard Waste Clas Info

photo of yard and compost Come learn about the environmental benefits of composting and how you can easily reduce waste at home. Our environmental educators will show you how to use green waste (grass clippings, young weeds, etc.) and brown waste (twigs, dead plants, leaves, straw, etc.) to make compost.

This class is recommended for ages 6 to adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free Class
This workshop has tips for maintaining a healthy compost pile, no matter what kind of composter you are.
  • You must register to attend (online registration below)
  • Bring a family member or friend! One guest per person. Guest must be registered.
  • Some of the class instruction may occur outdoors, so comfortable clothing and walking shoes is recommended.

Classes are FREE, but registration is required

Food Waste Class Only: The class is free, or you have the option of purchasing a worm bin and 1 pound of worms for $30.

Payment is not currently accepted online (instructions for submitting payment will be included in confirmation email). Your registration is not complete until we receive your payment.

Cancellation:
The Pierce County Solid Waste Division reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a workshop in the event of insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. You will be notified six days before your scheduled session, and we will either reschedule or refund your registration fee, if any.

Refund:
The registration fee is fully refundable if you cancel at least six business days before the class.

Registrants who do not attend and fail to cancel are subject to the complete fee.
