A public nuisance or junk vehicle meets three of the criteria below:
  1. It is extensively damaged

  2. It is apparently inoperable

  3. It is three years old or older

  4. Its fair market value is equal to the scrap value

Removing junk vehicles:
Pierce County Responds has resources available for county residents who want to get rid of or report public nuisance vehicles.

Removing NON-junk vehicles:
The vehicle may be towed by any licensed tow operator. A current list of licensed tow operators is listed on Washington State Department of Licensing's Webpage.

Towing Costs:
Many tow operators will haul vehicles free of charge when the value of scrap metal is high, however, this is subject to change.

Any towing fee incurred is the responsibility of the property owner/tenant where the vehicle is located.

To replace a lost vehicle title:
If you own the vehicle, but lost the title contact the Washington State Department of Licensing and request an Affidavit of Loss Release of Interest form.

A Junk Vehicle Affidavit (JVA) is required by a tow operator to remove a junk vehicle from private property when no title or proof of ownership is available.

Our staff will determine if the vehicle meets the criteria and can provide JVAs and technical assistance for vehicle removal.

Please list as much information as you can for each vehicle, such as make, model, color, year, license plate (state issued), and VIN.
