Any person bicycling or riding as a bicycle passenger upon any public area in unincorporated Pierce County is required to wear a safety helmet (Pierce County Code Section 10.22.020). You can receive a citation for riding without a safety helmet.

The following public agencies and non-profit organizations sell properly-fitted bike and multi-sport helmets at very affordable prices (most models are less than $12). Please see the list below to find a location near you. You may wish to call ahead to confirm availability, fitting times, and payment methods (most locations accept only cash payments).
