The Safety Officer is responsible for providing a safe, healthful environment for all staff and inmates within the correctional facility. This officer advises and assists management in the development and implementation of safety and occupational health policies. He or she provides leadership in safety activities and assists employees and inmates in carrying out effective safety programs and practices.
In addition to issuing safety instructions policies and procedures, the Safety Officer investigates accidents involving staff and inmates. The officer investigates vehicular accidents and conducts follow-ups to obtain necessary information relative to compensation or disability claims. The Safety Officer also serves as technical advisor in all matters pertaining to personal protective equipment, machine guarding, hazardous waste, toxic and flammable substance control, accident and injury investigation, and much more.
