The Pierce County Sheriff's Department uses a wide variety of watercraft to support its mission. Below is a small showcase of the types of watercraft the Marine Services Unit uses in its patrol and rescues.

Several members in the Marine Unit are trained in Swiftwater rescue, along with members of the Pierce County Search and Rescue team and Dive team.

Image of Reliance
The Reliance is Pierce County's all weather rescue/patrol vessel. The boat is powered by twin diesel engines, connected to outdrives that can be raised in shallow water, allowing the boat to be beached. The Reliance is equipped with a large variety of electronics equipment including, Marine radios, G.P.S. navigation, radio directional finders, and a FLIR (forward looking infra red) camera. The boat can be used in fire suppression activities, dive and rescue operations.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department also uses rigid hull inflatable vessels and aluminum constructed vessels to patrol the lakes of Pierce County and to assist in saltwater operations.

In addition, the Sheriff's Department also uses an aluminum hull vessel with a jet outdrive to access the numerous rivers in our jurisdiction.

We have also been fortunate to receive jet skis from local area businesses and have one donated from an insurance company after recovering the stolen vessel.
