Youth Basketball

This coach officiated league, offered in the winter/spring season, is strictly a recreation program. There are no tryouts - everyone plays regardless of ability. There are no league championships, and no win-loss records kept. This is not a program for highly skilled players that have previously played together.

• For boys and girls ages 5-8.
• Practices/games played at the Lakewood Community Center
• 2012 League Games - Saturdays: April 28-June 16, 2012
• Fee is $45 per child.
  • Fee includes team t-shirt, certificate of participation, player's basketball clinic, and 7-8 games.
• Registration: February 20-March 2, 2012, Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Community Center.

Learn to Golf Program

This is a year round program offered by Pierce County Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Premier Golf. The Learn to Golf Program will guide juniors through the introduction of the game to learning the skills necessary to enjoy the game for a lifetime or compete at any level, if so desired.

Juniors that are new to the program but not new to the game do not need to startat the beginner level to benefi t from this program. Any junior may contact the Golf Professionals at Lake Spanaway and schedule a skills test to determine their position in the program. The skills test to pass into a level is universal. Any junior may set up an appointment during the year to be evaluated.

Beginner Level Class:

• For ages 6-15
• Fee is $75 (6 weeks)

Class instruction will be structured for fi rst timers to learn fundamentals, proper technique, rules of the game, and much more. Beginner Level students will be provided with clubs if they do not have their own.

• Level 1 - Putter & 7 Iron
• Level 2 - 5 Iron and 5 Wood
• Level 3 - 9 Iron and 3 Wood

Each level will teach the skills necessary for using each club in both full swing and short game settings. Upon completion of the Beginner Level 3, juniors will be ready to advance to Intermediate Levels.

Intermediate Level Class:

After successfully passing all beginner skills challenges, participants will advance to the intermediate leve. Intermeidate Levels will focus onimproving the skills learned at the Beginner Level, while incorporating on-course learning.

• Level 4 - All skills, clubs, and 3 hole instruction from 100 yards.
• Level 5 - All skills, clubs and 3 hole instruction from 175 yards
• Level 6 - All skills, clubs and 3 hole instruction from Red Tees.

After successfully completing the Intermediate Skills challenges,golfers will move up to the Advance Level of the Learn to Golf Program. At these levels, golfers will continue to build on the skills they have been learning. The Advanced levels will focus on improving scoring and understanding the fi ner points of the game.

• Level 7 - All skills, clubs and 9 hole instruction at Fort Steilacoom
• Level 8 - All skills, clubs and 9 hole instruction at Lake Spanaway
• Level 9 - College Prep classes

Youth Indoor Soccer

This coach officiated program is offered twice a year during the months of February-April and September-November. This is strictly a recreation program to provide each participant a chance to develop a positive self-image, self-confidence, sportsmanship and physical skills through participating in soccer. There are no tryouts - everyone plays regardless of ability.

Practices/Games are at the Lakewood Community Center.

• Practices are held one evening per week (Mon, Wed, or Fri) at 5:15 pm or 6:15 pm.
• Games are played on Saturdays.

Registration is limited to the first 240 children who sign up on a first come-first serve basis.

Challenger Sports British Soccer Skill League

This program consists of professional instruction and coached games every Sunday. Players receive one training session and one small-sided game every Sunday, both coached by a Challenger Sports professional soccer coach!

The Skills League focuses on developing the individual technical ability of each player with emphasis on ball familiarity, dribbling, individual moves, turns, tricks, passing, control and more! Every Sunday, players will compete in organized games where they will put into practice the skills they learned the previous sessions the hour before. The small-sided games will maximize the contact that each player has with the ball and in turn provide the maximum opportunity for skill development.

Youth T-Ball

This league is designed to provide each participant with an enjoyable, safe, and positive experience while learning respect, sportsmanship and the basics of baseball/softball.

There are no try-outs; everyone plays regardless of ability. This is strictly a recreational program. There are no league championships, and no win/loss records will be kept. Boys and girls will play on the same team. Practices and games will be at Sprinker Recreation Center or Spanaway Park. Registration will be limited to the first 240 children who sign-up on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Evening registration - 2012 dates TBD, 4:30-6:00 pm at Sprinker Recreation Center.
• Practices and games are during the weekdays (Mon-Fri).
  • Each team will have 3 practices before the first game.
  • 6-7 games are played July-August. Two games are scheduled each week. Games will begin after 5:00 p.m.
• Fee is $45 per child.
  • Registration forms are available at Sprinker Center the night of registration.
