Park History
Ashford Park is part of a community effort, 30 years in the making. What began as a wish by Ashford residents for a safe place to walk and play with their children, has become a center piece for the greater Ashford community.
This particular property has had many uses over the past 100 years including use by the Auburn Coal and Coke Company and Champion International Paper. Ultimately, Champion Paper was approached about donating 29 acres. With that original donation Pierce County Parks and Recreation was approach to take stewardship of the property. The additional 51 acres came by way of many entities, including local citizens, the state, county, and tribal.
The amphitheater at the park was designed with the vision to hold various cultural activities such as concerts, festivals, movies, and much more.
During the past century this property served area citizens by providing coal and timber. Now it’s providing another much needed service to people – access to nature and a safe place to have leisure opportunities.
