Before our unusually hot and dry summer, Pierce County Facilities Management was already thinking about water conservation and how we could get one step closer to our water conservation goals. That’s why we will be installing the AQUARECYCLE® system in the jail this fall.
The AQUARECYCLE® system is a state-of-the-art gray water recycling system that will clean, sanitize and recycle water used for jail laundry. The system will reuse an estimated 3.3 million gallons of water each year, saving the county $41,000 annually in natural gas, water and sewer costs.
The installation of the new system is underway and is scheduled to be completed by late October.
Although this technology has been utilized internationally in many large-scale commercial laundry applications, Pierce County Jail will be the first Jail in Washington State to install the system.
