Pierce County is committed to improving the water quality of our creeks and rivers. This project is part of that effort to build drainage improvements throughout the county. One way to improve water quality is by reducing sediment and other pollutants in stormwater runoff from entering creeks and rivers. Special filters installed during construction will filter pollutants before the water drains into Woodland Creek and, ultimately, the Puget Sound. Following construction, the creek's water quality will be monitored to determine the level of improvement.
Woodland Creek is a tributary, or drains into, Clarks Creek. The latter creek is polluted and Pierce County is working on several projects to improve the creek's water quality. For more information about the Clarks Creek improvement effort, click here.
